Let’s be honest, we would all rather be riding deep powder runs but sometimes that’s not the case and we need to ride groomed trails to get to those sweet powder runs.
If you are lucky enough to have access to a snowy hill or mountain that has the potential to become a great spot for a snowboard run or snowboard park. You will need a couple of tools to make sure you have great working snowboard runs and trails.
- Make sure in the summer you clear trees and brush.
- Not steep enough? No problem groom it
- Compact high-traffic trails
We have learned over the years that it’s important to keep the trees and brush in check when creating a snowboard run. This allows for nice smooth powder runs or if it is not steep enough a groomed run.
Nothing is more annoying than when you hit a run and the snow is deep and the terrain is not steep enough and you come to a stop in the middle of the run and have to dig yourself out of the snow…..and go down to one binding or worse completely unstrap and post hole till its steep enough to get going again. Snow grooming helps with this type of terrain traps.
Having a compacted trail allows you to have an area that is faster allowing you to ride the deep snow on non-steep terrain.
Another reason you need to groom your snowboard runs is traffic.
If you are using the same trails over and over for either skinning, snowmobiling, or tracked UTV/ATV as your mode of transport. These options do much better when you compact and knock the air out of the snow creating a nice hard layer of snow to commute on.
Along with this your snow groomer can cut and knock down any ruts or bumps that develop while using your trails.
